Platinum Wedding Bands
Over the past several decades, Platinum has become an increasingly popular metal, commonly used by jewelers. In today’s society, platinum has become a status symbol of wealth and prosperity. What used to be called a “gold standard” is now based on platinum. But why? What makes platinum such a coveted precious metal?
Platinum is remarkably resistant to corrosion, it does not oxidize or tarnish, thus making it a wonderful substance with which to make platinum wedding bands, pieces of jewelry that are often worn for decades. Many people choose platinum for their wedding bands because platinum is an extremely dense metal, much stronger than gold. When platinum is scratched, the metal condenses upon itself, making it even stronger. For jewelry that is worn on a daily basis, platinum is ideal due to the fact that there is much less risk of damage to piece caused by wear and tear. This is especially true for jewelry with diamond or other precious gemstone settings. Platinum is a naturally white metal so it does not cast any of its own color into a diamond setting, and does not continuously need to be treated like white gold does, with a rhodium plating.
The use of platinum in jewelry making is by no means a new concept, but it is only in recent years that platinum has begun to be marketed for mass consumption. With so many obvious benefits, it is clear to see why people having been choosing platinum for their wedding bands, for what could be more fitting as the visual symbol that your commitment to one another will last a lifetime, than a precious metal that will last forever?
