What is involved in getting dental implants?

I am trying to figure out whether or not I should get dental implants – Zahnimplantate. My dentist has said that this is one of my options, but I am not sure I want to do this since it sounds like there might be a lot of pain involved and a lot of time spent in the dentist office, which definitely isn’t my favorite place. Can anyone tell me where I can find out more about what is involved in getting dental implants? I want to see whether the pain and time commitment is worth it given the results that can be expected.
