323 Franklin
Street could be one of the oldest surviving homes in Danville.
Built around 1850 this pre-industrial revolution home has a basement built
of stone quarried from the Vermilion River bluffs just a short distance to
the west. The windows reveal old world joinery of craftsmen working on
site.
The window sash show mortise and tenon joints locked together with
whittled wooden pegs. This historic home is plain and handsome in its
simplicity.
This structures most immediate past life was as a five-unit apartment.
During the renovation process this could be converted into an excellent
"mother-in-law house". Renaissance Danville would require owner
occupancy
but an additional apartment to generate some additional income or for a
family member could be acceptable. The new owners will be required to show
the financial capacity and the expertise to fully restore and live in this
house. The exterior and interior of the dwelling must be completed within
24-36 months of date of purchase. Exterior renovation plan must be
approved by the City's Historical Preservation Commission prior to
starting work.
This house is one of a three-house package acquired by Renaissance
Danville about a year ago. Renaissance Danville is a not-for-profit
organization engaged in neighborhood revitalization in the west downtown
area of Danville, Illinois |
