VIN number format
Since 1980 the standard format of the VIN number has been a legal requirement on all cars on the road (and trucks and any other motor vehicles). The format of the VIN is essential to maintain an easily decoded alphanumeric code that can quickly ascertain the cars make, engine size, and body style (and more). I discovered that all letters in the alphabet but i, o, and q are used in the vin number (where the letters appear throughout). I’m not sure why these letters are not allowed but I’m sure they have a good reason. The VIN number has alot of uses by many government bodies including the police, DMV and other law enforcement agencies.
