    A Conversation

Well, "Mr. Renaissance Man" what have you done for me lately?

I'm glad you asked that question. But let's get something straight; it isn't me that makes this stuff happen. It is you. With renewed spirit and attitude it is the West Downtown Neighborhood Association, the new and current investors of the Renaissance District, the tenants and homeowners of the neighborhood, it's the City of Danville. It is everyone who seems to be climbing on the bandwagon. It's hard to blame them, good things are happening in the West Downtown Renaissance District.

Things are happening. What things? What does that mean?

Making good things happen is the key. Small positive steps taken by many people on many fronts make the difference.
  • Good neighbors who have maybe allowed that prize collection of, of who knows what to get just a bit out of hand are starting clean it up.
  • New signage to identify the West Downtown Renaissance District will be going up soon.
  • The first project house of the Renaissance Danville has an offer from a potential buyer.
  • A second project house is very close to starting.
  • Proactive housing code enforcement to assist those with a lack of direction regarding their properties is showing results.
  • New residential sidewalks to replace the most deteriorated are now in place.
  • West Downtown Neighborhood Association progresses to initiate a community crime watch detail.
  • Extra Police Department efforts in the neighborhood have already had a significant impact on the criminal and nuisance element once common in the District.
  • New resident investors are taking advantage of the bargain priced properties available in the District. Betting with the rest of us that prudent restoration, good property management and the common goal of a revitalized Downtown Danville area will pay real dividends.
  • Long time area Landlords are also seeing the light and agreeing that reinvesting in prudent restoration and good property management will return their properties to income and value levels of the past.

Wow, it does sound like there is a lot going on in the West Downtown Renaissance District. Tell me more

It is good to see your attitude change with knowledge of the progress. Knowledge is power they say. There is still much to do. As with this kind of project, this one is far from complete and in fact will require constant work and attention. After all it was neglect and complacency that allowed these problems to become so overwhelming.

One last announcement. For those of you who live in the West Downtown Renaissance District your opportunity is coming.
  • Help to clean up your neighborhood, the District.
  • Socialize over burgers and dogs.
  • Look at Renaissance properties and learn how this piece of the puzzle helps you.

On Saturday September 15, 2001 in the vacant lot north of the Fire Station on Oak Street, the West Downtown Neighborhood Association and Renaissance Danville will host a neighborhood clean up and picnic. The Clean-up starts at 9:00 am and the picnic will start around 11:00 am. We want for this to be an opportunity for you to meet your neighbors and become active in your neighborhood association.

OK, I'm climbing aboard too. This is already improving my typically poor attitude.

Thanks, I'm going to add you to my list of positive developments too.
